What Is a Waterjet Metal Cutting Machine?
A water jet metal cutting machine is a machine that cuts metal and other hard materials with a high-pressure stream of water, typically mixed with garnet, resulting in high precision and no heat generation.
No heat-affected zone like laser or plasma cutting. No warping. No metallurgical changes to the material. The result is a clean, accurate cut with complete structural integrity of the part, ranging from 1 mm aluminum sheet to 150 mm hardened steel plate.
Our machines at Shenyang Reliable Technology are designed for the actual industrial setting: to operate long shifts, to process a variety of materials, and to produce the same results every day.
How Does It Work?
See how high-pressure water turns into precise, clean industrial cutting. Each stage is designed for precision, efficiency and reliable operation.
High-pressure water generation
The direct drive or intensifier pump pressurizes water to 40,000–60,000 PSI. This is the main component of the machine, and where the pump engineering of Shenyang Reliable Technology shines.
Abrasive mixing
For metal cutting, garnet abrasive is introduced at the mixing chamber, creating an abrasive jet stream capable of slicing through the hardest industrial metals.
CNC-controlled cutting head
The cutting head moves along X, Y (and optionally Z and tilt) axes under precise CNC control, following your design file with accuracy up to ±0.1 mm.
Clean part output
The edges of the cut part will not be rough, have no burr, or have no thermal distortion – ready for use or minimal finishing. Waste water and abrasive are captured in the catcher tank below.
Key Benefits for Manufacturing Applications
Optimized for efficiency, accuracy and production flexibility in challenging industrial applications. These built-in benefits contribute to lower manufacturing costs, quality control and long-term performance.
Cold Cutting — Zero Heat Damage
No heat-affected zones occur with waterjet cutting, which means that there is no warping, micro-cracks, or material hardening. It is well suited for use in aerospace materials, tool steel, titanium and other alloys sensitive to heat that demand structural integrity and precision finishing.
Multi-Material Versatility
It can process metal, stone, glass, rubber and composite materials without changing tools and requires only very minor adjustments in setup. This versatility enhances productivity and meets various manufacturing needs in a single facility.
±0.1mm Cutting Precision
Advanced CNC controlled motion systems provide a highly accurate cut with tight tolerances for all projects. Precision is maintained in all high-volume industrial production operations, from basic plate cutting to complex geometric profiles.
Lower Operating Cost
Waterjet systems reduce maintenance and tooling expenses by eliminating blade wear, die replacement, and costly consumable tooling. Water and garnet abrasive are still the most important consumables, providing economical and internationally viable operating efficiency.
Environmentally Cleaner Process
No toxic fumes, hazardous gases or cutting oil contamination is generated during water jet cutting. The clean cutting process will improve modern environment compliance standards and make the industrial workspace safer and cleaner.
OEM-Ready & Customizable
Everything is possible to customize the machine to specific production requirements: table size, capacity of the pressure, axis configuration, and branding. This OEM flexibility allows businesses to integrate systems seamlessly into existing operations.
Trusted Across Large-Scale Manufacturing Applications
Aerospace Titanium, Inconel and composite panels are cut with precision without causing heat stress or delamination. This ensures aerospace components maintain structural integrity, tight tolerances, and reliable performance for critical aircraft and defense applications. | Metal Fabrication High-precision processing of structural steel, stainless steel and aluminum profiles for industrial and architectural use. Precision cutting minimizes material loss, enhances edge quality, and facilitates efficient production while ensuring dimensional accuracy. | Automotive In the automotive industry, high-volume parts like chassis parts, gaskets, door skins and interior panels are cut rapidly and precisely. In large-scale manufacturing processes, precision processing increases efficiency, optimizes material usage, and ensures product uniformity. |
Stone & Marble Stone and marble materials are precisely cut to deliver countertops, architectural designs, decorative inlays, etc. Premium quality finishes are obtained in residential and commercial projects by cleaning the edges, providing intricate detailing and ensuring minimal material breakage. | Construction Modern constructions are accurately cut with glass facades, ceramic tiles, rubber membranes and composite cladding panels. Precision cutting allows for more consistent fitment, faster installation, and better fitment of parts in architectural applications. | Medical Devices Components such as implant-grade titanium and stainless steel are cut clean without contamination or thermal damage. This ensures high precision, biocompatibility, and reliable quality for surgical instruments, implants, and advanced medical equipment manufacturing. |
Waterjet vs. laser vs. plasma cutting
Understanding the differences helps you choose the right process — and justify the investment to your team.
Factor | Waterjet Metal Cutting | Laser Cutting | Plasma Cutting |
Heat-affected zone | None — cold process | Present — moderate | Significant |
Material range | Metal, stone, glass, composites | Mainly metals & thin materials | Metals only |
Cutting thickness | Up to 150mm+ | Up to ~25mm effectively | Up to 80mm (rough) |
Edge quality | Smooth, burr-free | Good, some oxidation | Rough, requires finishing |
Toxic fumes | None | Yes – extraction needed | Yes – significant |
Tooling cost | Low – water + garnet only | Medium – lens wear | Medium – electrode wear |
